Right people I have wanted to do a blog on this subject for a while, but I have never been angry enough until now. Until some dickhead on the Internet started spewing his ignorant retarded verbal feces of an opinion at me.

I have a new opinion to disembowel Oh the joy.

Right.

Metal is the kind of music most people love to hate. I’ve heard people say all kinds of unjust untrue and ignorant things about it.
In this I’m gonna go through every single accusation and criticism I’ve heard normal people say about metal and put it through a bullsh*t filter.
Because I am sick of all the ignorant condescending crap that spews from peoples mouths the moment they discover the music i like…

and for me… thats almost instantly, given the fact most of my wardrobe is advertising one metal band or another.

These articles of bullsh*t (that i intend to kill stone dead) are as follows:

“metal is just rawr rawr rawr and hitting the drums as fast as they can and random strumin the guitar”
“metal has little /no skill”
“metal is just noise”
“metal singers can’t sing”
“metal is evil music”
“metal is the devils music”
“metal is not music”

If you have ever even uttered any one of these verbal retardations, by the end of these blog you should feel shame. Even some of my best friends have said these

I don’t want people to love metal and say how great it is constantly i just want understanding and acceptance.
Time to piss out some fires of ignorance and stupidity.

Ok here goes:

I think I’ll start with the skill business.

Guitars and basses:
Metal is not just strumming the guitar randomly. AT ALL. If you would care to actually listen to some metal before saying this it would help.
I play guitar myself and I am immensely offended. Metal is a hell of a lot more complicated musically than your favourite indie band. You haven’t got a hope in hell of playing such complicated riffs are are played in say the arcane order.

The rhythms in the breakdowns,the key and time changes… they would make you shit your pants.
You couldn’t fucking play the solo on the infinite ghost anathema! You like the guns and roses solo on welcome to the jungle do you?!
Well the arcane order has solos about about 3 times as fast and longer and with 2 guitars playing them in harmony. IT’S IMMENSE, IT’S EPIC.
I’D LOVE TO SEE YOU DO THAT!
Metal guitarists, use more than 1 fucking boring tuning like your favourite indie band, they don’t just play the same boring rhythm for every chord like I’ve heard pop bands doing. It’s fucking fast and fucking complicated, a hell of a lot more skillful than the nicely strummed barre chords you favourite britpop band uses. Not to mention the fact that metal uses more than just 1 fucking song structure!

Vocals:
This is probably gonna be the hardest thing to tackle , but metal screaming actually has a lot of skill, if you don’t do it right , you can fuck up your voice permanently.

Johnathon Carswell told me there is no skill or technique to it at all. WRONG. If that’s the case then why is there an instructional DVD out that teaches you how to scream correctly??? PWNED If I gave you the mic what the best thing you could do? Whine like a jackass?

Can you do that? didn’t think so. Metal screaming is also a hell of a lot more passionate than most singing styles. it conveys far more anger and emotion than singing

can lot of the time.
Also, for the record, it doesn’t all sound the same. You can hit more than you note , there are raspy screams, inwards screams, guttural screams, black metal screeches, hardcore barks , thrash metal rawrs… and most descent screamers can switch between these styles easily and sing as well! what can the singer from your favourite band do? not much I’m guessing.

I was speaking to screamer last year and he said it takes just as long to learn to scream as it does to learn to sing.

So please would you mind not being so stuck up about metal vocalists? my friend George would be offended.
While it may be true that some vocalist are shit, but someone who is used to metal can tell they can’t scream, the same way, you can tell if a singer can’t sing.
Just because you are not used to it. doesn’t mean it’s shit.

Statements like “metal singers can’t sing” are retarded because it order for you to be able to make such a statement, you must of heard every single metal singer on planet earth and judged there singing ability beyond doubt. Saying things like that is inane.

The same goes for most of those statements.

The majority of metal’s critics (notice I say the majority not all, as I cannot know for certain) are people who have heard very little metal, and could only name about 4-5 metal bands, most of which would be mainstream rap/alt metal, which most metal fans don’t really consider to be metal at all, as it’s very simplistic.
So if you fit in this bracket, I suggest you shut up as you are no position to say anything about it, because you barely know what metal is, nevermind it being enough information to criticize metal.

I would normally laugh at balls like this, but today I’ll take it seriously.
Firstly i would like to say what i said before, unless you have heard every single metal on planet earth and assessed there evil-ness, you can’t say jack shit and be taken seriously. NEVER generalize. EVER. Or I’ll hunt you down and feed you to the creature at bottom of my garden.
Secondly… most metal musicians I know, myself included, would be rather annoyed at a fictional villain taking credit for there work.

Thirdly, Christian metal exists(if you think Christianity isn’t evil that is). it’s preaches crap in the lyrics like nothing else. Even Christian death metal bands exist. check “impending doom” or “beneath the sky”
Even some bands that I like are Christians , although they don’t mention it in there lyrics , As i lay dying? Still remains?

Also. WELL DURR. Some metal is evil. WELL DONE!! *clap clap clap* you dumbass. Don’t like it? Don’t listen to black metal then! What kind of dumb state is metal is evil…. so what? some of it is, some of it isn’t, whats your fucking point mate? how can a music be actually evil anyway, it’s flipping sound waves! Yes, alot of extreme metal lyrics are nasty but so what? it’s still sound waves! How about saying “SOME of metals LYRICS are evil” that makes more sense, but it’s still a rubbish criticism
Personally I’ll stick with the metal that doesn’t care about good and evil, and sings about whatever it wants( thats what most of it’s like by the way)

Yes for every descent original style created by a band, you get your shitty clone bands, but for the most part, metal is an incredibly diverse area of music. INCREDABLY.

Seriously, there is everything from Electro-metal , to Opera metal, Hardcore to Power metal, bands within each genre all have different tinges to there sound, In the same way your indie bands don’t all sound the same. Saying all metal sound the same is quite frankly, ignorant and stupid.

Metal has keys, Time signatures, Song structures, rhythms and some melody just like any other type of music.

It seems to me that metal gets the most shit out of all the music genres, and as far as I can see, for no good reason.

If you genuinely believe the media stereotypes, and random hear say, without listening to the music first, you are a joke.
If I wanted to, I could dissect your favourite music(if it’s naff) and provide twice as many founded reason for disliking it, as you could provide unfounded ones for hating metal.

Argh I am not narrow-minded

This is happening with alarming regularity now and it’s really annoying me,

I dislike them because they are musically predictable, uninteresting, boring etc… Seriously over-rated, they get masses and masses of glory for creating short simple, predictable guitar work, with boring song structures, over used techniques,lyrics about the same old stuff.. shit that I’ve heard a millions time before.

“The Youth of Today”

GMTV this morning…

Contained rather large sections of “news” about “Today’s youth” and “yob culture”
Apparently according to the thick woman who sits on the sofa, it’s all gone down the pan and we are all scary violent yobs who ought to go and do national service.
We were told some horror stories about people getting stabbed etc…
…and it seems like just a few cases of this up and down the country, and the whole of “todays youth” are feared, because we are of course, all pure evil.

Every last f*cking one of us sets out everyday to intimidate people and makes the ordinary persons life hell… don’t we?

Well according to the media that is the case.

I am (and i hope you are too) sick of hearing about “todays youth” and how nasty and disrespectful we are.
When will they understand we are not all like that?!
It’s so frustrating hearing these massive sweeping assumptions made on TV about todays youth going to sh*t.
These yob arseholes are a minority amongst teenagers.
SO PLEASE DON’T REFER TO THEM AS TODAY’S YOUTH.

More examples:
Me and my friends Sami and Chris were talking and walking down an alleyway in town and some women comes out of her house to accuse us of graffiti-ing a nearby lamp post!
We get approached by police randomly when passing the chav hang outs.
They are limits on how many kids can go in a shop at a time because we might steal things.
We get patronized all the freaking time and talked down to by our “elders”, I know many people my age will agree we are the first to be blamed for loads of things

It’s irrational and stupid not to mention insulting.I will not respect irrationality and stupidity. End Of.

You don’t get respect you earn it. My friend Anne once said that, and it is true.
People need to appreciate that people do just get respect for nothing more than being older, (many older people are stupid as hell)you get respect for being a descent human in my book.

An Important Distinction

This has been getting me frustrated for a long time now.
So I figured rather than just letting it stew in my brain I’d let people read it.
I hope I can get my point across.

It’s about a new trend which no doubt everyone will have heard of “emo”( short for emotional apparently.) and it’s subculture and music…
(in this blog i’m gonna assume you know what it is)

The reason i am annoyed is not because emo exists , but because it’s misused and it’s been hi-jacked by ignorant people and used as an insult against anyone different to themselves.

Picture this scene:

I have a mate called Andy in year 9, he is about as emo as your granma.He barely wears any black , no dyed and straightened fringe , no nothing.
He is sat listening to a favourite band of his on his Ipod – Cannibal Corpse…
His friend comes up to him and asks him “Why are you listening to emo music?”

I have several problems with this question:

Cannibal Corpse is a death metal band.Most people who consider themselves emo would not not touch death metal with a bargepole.

Metal is characteristically, very fast, low register, with low tuned distorted guitars, harsh vocals,angry lyrics about almost anything, complex and aggressive drumming.Basically very precise and aggressive music.

Emo on the other hand is nearly always has clean vocals, not as fast , not where near as aggressive, hardly any down tuning of the guitars, less distortion, kinda like watered down punk rock with more depressing lyrics.

Not much alike are they???

(Ever called anyone goth? goth is something different entirely)

It annoys me greatly that people should automatically assume that any “heavy” or outcasted music they hear is *insert name of lastest subculture/trend here*.

It’s NOT.

Metal predates emo by 20 years. Even metal as extreme as death metal predates emo 15 years.

So please don’t call metal, emo , or vices versa(OR goth for that matter)
because it simply isn’t, if you wanna insult someone just because their music taste differs from your at least get your facts straight.

Other thing that pisses me off about that question is:
Why does the questioner need to approve of the music???

Andy’s, or anyone Else’s for that matter? Can’t he listen to whatever the fuck he wants?
What is it to the questioner? It’s not like he is being forced to listen to the music? If he doesn’t like like it… he can f**k off and listen to his own.
It’s like the questioner and many like the questioner (and there are alot believe me) are striving for a universally accepted idea of what is good music.

He can f*ck off.Simple as.
People shouldn’t listen to things because it’s cool and acceptable.It’s f*cking stupid.

Many people are always telling me how metal is shit and providing vague and flawed reasons for it and I intent to pwn their arse in a later blog ,
As I still have something to explain on this subject of emo.

In this blog I have another aim besides showing the differance between emo and metal.
I am always getting these retards coming up to me saying *puts stupid voice on* “Go slit your wrists you fucking emo” (No I don’t do it ).ARGH.I wanna talk about this as well. I’m not gonna say whether self harm is good or bad.I’m gonna say
“What the f*ck does it have to do with emo???”

Again, self harm predates emo by f*ck knows how many years.
I know myself many people who aren’t “emos” who selfharm,
and many many “emos” who don’t.
I’m not gonna say self harm and emo are completely unrelated, as many idiots who are trying to fit with the bounderys of the trend, think it’s nessersery to be “emo”(which shows they don’t understand what selfharm is for).

You notice that these are the people who show it off??? The ones who actaully roll up their sleeves to show the world.
So it’s easy to see why you would think Emo = Selfharm, but think of the masses of people who haven’t rolled up thier sleeves! whats under there? I bet those people outnumber the pretenious idiots.(use your brain folks)

Those “emos” only show it off because they want to be seen as more emo.
That is a large smack in the face to all those genuine people who are suffering with the problem.
They are actaully ashamed and therefore won’t parade it around so you don’t notice them.But you notice that minority of attention seeking emos don’t you?

People shouldn’t form their opinion based on that.

They call me in simply because I do not share there opinions/taste in fashion/taste in music/religion/stupidity/irrational desire to conform.

There are number of irritating misconceptions about “being weird”.I intend to deal with these in this blog. As they frustrate me intensely and lead to more completely pointless insults hurled my way.(e.g. my art teacher openly calls me insane in class, and mercilessly takes the piss out of me.(that’s because pwn his art ).

I will now correct all misconceptions/Blind media influenced assumptions:

Being weird does NOT make me ANY of the following:

- “Goff”
- “Mosha”
- “Emo” (no no definitely not)
- Satanist
- Murderous
- Evil
- A nasty person
- A self harmer
- “Geek”
- Insane

However being weird does make me:

- Alienated (Your Fault)
- Unique
- Have the creativity to do something beyond boring normality
- Less of a clone
- Write shit like this

If you disagree, you are probably:

- A total w*nker
- Ignorant
- Obnoxious
- Normal
- Arrogant
- Slightly stupid

…and if you disagree with that , feel free to:

- Jump off a bridge
